I have done a few and Greg has now done several races, including Untamed New England. Adventure racing involves map and compass navigation. Usually, races include trekking, mountain biking, and paddling.<br />

This weekend, Ian and I completed the Wildlands Adventure Challenge in Orland, Maine. This race was organized by Strong Machine Adventure Racing and we are lucky that this race is basically held in our backyard. We have also participated in their Maine Summer Adventure Race in Jefferson which was a blast.<br />

This year's race had a few more teams than last year and we were excited that there were four other children participating. We began with the paddle section. Adventure racing involves some strategy and not all of the checkpoints are mandatory. I knew that Ian was likely to get tired on the trekking (mostly uphill) and would definitely be slower on his six-year-old legs, so we went for all but one checkpoint on the paddle. This would allow him to take as many breaks as needed while still allowing up to make progress through the course. Ian was a rockstar! He paddled for much of the hour and nimbly hopped in and out of the boat to punch the card.<br />

Once off the water, we headed out for the trekking section. The first checkpoint that we went for was in a stream. This one ate up a lot of our time as it was MUCH further than I expected it to be and the rocks in the streambed, as well as the leaves on the steep sides, were very slippery. We thought about turning back on this one, then we finally saw it. Ian was a trooper even with a few falls and really enjoyed exploring off-trail. We got back to the road a little wet and with a few extra scrapes and headed out to look for checkpoint 9. I had to piggyback Ian quite a few times last year and was expecting to piggyback him this year as well. I was wrong. Ian loved finding the checkpoints, was diligent about checking his watch and actually ran quite a lot of the trekking section. After reaching checkpoints 9 and 10, we decided that our next checkpoint was out of our reach if we wanted to stay within the time and we began our trek back to the finish. Overall, we reached 8 checkpoints and finished in 3rd place overall. First place in the family division. The first-place team had 10 checkpoints with no teams clearing the course. <br />

I'm so proud of my little racer who is eager to get out and do it again. This race was well organized and so much fun! Thanks so much to Strong Machine Adventure Racing (<a href="https://www.strongmachinear.com/">https://www.strongmachinear.com/</a>) for making these races family-friendly and encouraging new racers to get out and try the sport.</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We have been doing quite a lot of exploring and generally just enjoying the outdoors. I am sad that I haven't logged all of it on here for the boys to look back on. A few weeks ago, we traveled to Carrabassett Valley for the weekend to do some mountain biking. Ian completed a children's mountain bike race at their summer challenge and both boys have been begging to go back and explore the trails. Now that Gabe can pedal independently and with winter fast approaching, we figured it now or never for this year. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, we loaded up the bikes, the kids and the dogs and made the trek. The first morning was chilly. Hats and gloves were required and there was still some complaining, even from my shorts and flip flop child. As a warm-up, Ian led up around the racecourse which actually had a pretty steep downhill and some loose gravel. I am impressed that he conquered this on his first race. Next, Ian and I rode around a green single track trail that he had been too intimidated to try in July. No problems this time as he took the lead. At this point, Gabe was ready to try the "real trails" and we set out to ride a green trail that loops around a large pond at the outdoor center. This was Gabe's first big outing with his lightweight Woom 2 and he had no trouble keeping up, only having to walk the top 1/3 or less of the bigger hills. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj91nCPJsQlViOKeUPgO8qHWCTw0b3-rJXj1t2vk7QiPNhFr8Iaj_PMgl3FiVi0yOEIaAVwE00m8F2sZWwHFUQrg5S71wb4grOip7mNpf_MixBsR6fWS-TMj9fhUzsITqbXqkU8IpTQCtwV/s1600/20190929_105009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj91nCPJsQlViOKeUPgO8qHWCTw0b3-rJXj1t2vk7QiPNhFr8Iaj_PMgl3FiVi0yOEIaAVwE00m8F2sZWwHFUQrg5S71wb4grOip7mNpf_MixBsR6fWS-TMj9fhUzsITqbXqkU8IpTQCtwV/s320/20190929_105009.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We took a break for some leaf and real estate peeping - maybe someday we will have a camp up there. After a little lunch, the boys were ready to tackle some more single track off the Narrow Gauge trail. Ian rocked around the trails with Greg, voicing some annoyance that he had to keep stopping to wait for me and Gabe. Gabe did pretty well with the single track, struggling and crashing a little on the roots. The Woom 2 isn't really designed for true mountain biking but overall, I was impressed at how well he was able to handle the trails. </div>

I think we covered a little over 3 miles of true mountain bike trails. We heard lots of moans and groans when it was time to leave. I love that they love to adventure and I am so excited that we can really hit the trails as a family.</div>

Other
than climbing, his new developments are mostly language based. He can
say "Ella" for both his cousin Ella and his best buddy Ellie. He says
Yayaya for Josiah. He will try to repeat a lot of things, but mostly
approximates syllables. Most recently, he says "There ya go" when he
hands you something. Today, he put something on the conveyor as we
checked out at the grocery store and looked at the cashier and said,
"There ya go" with a big smile on his face. He is such a goof.<br />

Ian is 16 months old this week and is a bona fide toddler! He is walking, talking, TROUBLE.<br />
He can climb things and open things and is getting pretty good at starting a game of chase. Here's how he really felt about a 16 month photo shoot.<br />

<br />
He can use words to say....<br />

We had a great summer exploring the beach and playing outside. We are back to reality now. Luckily, Ian loves his 2 buddies at daycare and is always happily playing.....sometimes so much that he doesn't want to leave, when I arrive.<br />

It's so hard to believe that this little peanut has grown so fast!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
He can crawl faster than fast, but he loves being on his feet. He can pull to stand and cruises along anything. He most definitely does not like to sit still.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZfEHIiP3RAXAPDqifu9GDFS73gI1dRXTB1MN3UBeqrEcrvpXxWET8IJR2TxcM3YPh7GEM9hQCiw1u6PfrDz51plKYp-8srFRbyQoJIMz5pwXUvXzwdRQWtCynvNVTmtijII0gPafqrUJB/s1600/DSC_0998.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZfEHIiP3RAXAPDqifu9GDFS73gI1dRXTB1MN3UBeqrEcrvpXxWET8IJR2TxcM3YPh7GEM9hQCiw1u6PfrDz51plKYp-8srFRbyQoJIMz5pwXUvXzwdRQWtCynvNVTmtijII0gPafqrUJB/s1600/DSC_0998.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
He has four teeth and weighs 23 pounds. He still isn't very tall.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiptEMWMdeEx0Q4GQ7ZJ4QNFkiVP2PpgpAAXIjbXr-WOQqA5611MiMRN80XyNJH1cUeuQGHCKEIzeO83IeTrZRIdYcsG3rBqvqk7YOTgbpgtPITYtvI9GoOKjAJJamCcBYrabCX2A_QUsnl/s1600/DSC_1004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiptEMWMdeEx0Q4GQ7ZJ4QNFkiVP2PpgpAAXIjbXr-WOQqA5611MiMRN80XyNJH1cUeuQGHCKEIzeO83IeTrZRIdYcsG3rBqvqk7YOTgbpgtPITYtvI9GoOKjAJJamCcBYrabCX2A_QUsnl/s1600/DSC_1004.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
He points at all kinds of things and says, "dis" or "dat". He has a few other words too. He can say "dada", "mama", "dot" (dog), "doot" (I think this is Moose), and "adone" (all done). He waves at everyone and everything and can sign "all done". He still refuses to sign "more" or clap.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
He had so many people who love and care about him come to his birthday party. It was a beautiful day. We were able to celebrate outside on the deck. The kids enjoyed bubbles, sand play, climbing, sliding, collecting eggs, petting goats, and catching a crayfish.<br />
<br />
Ian loved his cupcake.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

He had so much fun playing at his party. He slept so well and was still exhausted the next day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We love you sweet boy! Happy Birthday!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00689977125519702919noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5378651085469915452.post-45567600634942296842014-04-17T17:08:00.003-07:002014-04-17T17:08:50.907-07:00Eleven Months OldWe are having so much fun watching Ian learn and grow. It is so hard to believe that he is already 11 months old.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikPl28uezuky_HFFuBZ-claW-IoUaQByweljxa6NRWpijZrzUT2qqaNj7ls3o5SpfEkcyazrhaWldaZkar2C0BoOe_v76XqBZMOEQgEgJuEsNGa5YwOZtpfW0FWhHT-bqAEIkeK6T_U5wa/s1600/DSC_0901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikPl28uezuky_HFFuBZ-claW-IoUaQByweljxa6NRWpijZrzUT2qqaNj7ls3o5SpfEkcyazrhaWldaZkar2C0BoOe_v76XqBZMOEQgEgJuEsNGa5YwOZtpfW0FWhHT-bqAEIkeK6T_U5wa/s1600/DSC_0901.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Ian has two bottom teeth. I'm not sure that he is ever going to get any more teeth, though there may be a top one about ready to make an appearance. His lack of teeth doesn't stop him from eating. This boy loves his food. He is almost as bad as the dog when it comes to begging.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ3tsvLc9Fdk6amGDcsbTi9M5JZiBDXci-Rgyg59vjrPjic0Aq3WyNTjWmCWY-TAge6-KqIw-OCjchyphenhyphenBMzF9oHcmu4RTzqJOzo_SQJpnWsb-Zu6JAAFvDO8b0OqaTsL9Ovi9FfJUilrv9L/s1600/DSC_0903.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ3tsvLc9Fdk6amGDcsbTi9M5JZiBDXci-Rgyg59vjrPjic0Aq3WyNTjWmCWY-TAge6-KqIw-OCjchyphenhyphenBMzF9oHcmu4RTzqJOzo_SQJpnWsb-Zu6JAAFvDO8b0OqaTsL9Ovi9FfJUilrv9L/s1600/DSC_0903.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
He pulls up to stand on almost anything and LOVES doors and drawers. He also loves outlets and wires. He doesn't miss anything and knows within seconds if the dishwasher, basement door or dog gate or is open...and he is lightening fast on his hands and knees. He really is trouble.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN-0A41_tYfA8JoP_JWhJNaMPLcPEcEc1dUx10uIQ6pn7KQOFszNpWGmyE4cSEm8NR-UVI6f2DvUj3DQ_AyIvg3McIGHa59i5U_vfSKL1RByOAeVQ9YcVuTeHo2K3KZpfsAhfa0Q3UdLCP/s1600/DSC_0893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN-0A41_tYfA8JoP_JWhJNaMPLcPEcEc1dUx10uIQ6pn7KQOFszNpWGmyE4cSEm8NR-UVI6f2DvUj3DQ_AyIvg3McIGHa59i5U_vfSKL1RByOAeVQ9YcVuTeHo2K3KZpfsAhfa0Q3UdLCP/s1600/DSC_0893.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
He can wave and make lots of silly sounds with his mouth, or hands and mouth. He loves to bang on things and is starting to drive toy cars and throw balls.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7gng4xCPTQQ2DABcYYTD38JZa3H_eVjt2aWI3fCnUYPWR9T-uh-y1iYl6LfdNwpHP0IP6qDqxqdMO7RV5kVd5BX8pBr48sWt1UgMTSIEAmWkD24aI8FC09Vz5X3lpMXUrCNM80GuYKFpz/s1600/DSC_0908.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7gng4xCPTQQ2DABcYYTD38JZa3H_eVjt2aWI3fCnUYPWR9T-uh-y1iYl6LfdNwpHP0IP6qDqxqdMO7RV5kVd5BX8pBr48sWt1UgMTSIEAmWkD24aI8FC09Vz5X3lpMXUrCNM80GuYKFpz/s1600/DSC_0908.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
He says, "mama", "dada", "dot" for dog, and "dis" for this. He has just recently started pointing, usually at his dogs. Gauge is still the one who brings him the most joy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzdR8-DR8tuGVt4N88y8o_F2-yL4OPpOJrx54edaJ3AZeEXxsA_JQqLNoUX03q7w93chVinAyD1gclF8sug2WNBcEmmUkDc4AGtyUbjAP-6Xv_JthJrbU_ad9mUQ98c5pVLlupgqGqVevQ/s1600/DSC_0937.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzdR8-DR8tuGVt4N88y8o_F2-yL4OPpOJrx54edaJ3AZeEXxsA_JQqLNoUX03q7w93chVinAyD1gclF8sug2WNBcEmmUkDc4AGtyUbjAP-6Xv_JthJrbU_ad9mUQ98c5pVLlupgqGqVevQ/s1600/DSC_0937.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>

We are so in love with this silly, silly boy! Even though I only just posted Ian's 9 month photos, he is actually 10 month old today.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTvtG5WVDBHLy2X6Oi_uqZk59z6q0CQtI0Pldsy-HXc5oNtWU6K6uucbGAimdTBVrZi1hY-SfXnKkvkaxNwFiB3OAMITXUs3viuElUqA1Fg7NbqHw_0z7r60di4QgXukiGREm_nNatbuKm/s1600/DSC_0828.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTvtG5WVDBHLy2X6Oi_uqZk59z6q0CQtI0Pldsy-HXc5oNtWU6K6uucbGAimdTBVrZi1hY-SfXnKkvkaxNwFiB3OAMITXUs3viuElUqA1Fg7NbqHw_0z7r60di4QgXukiGREm_nNatbuKm/s1600/DSC_0828.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Ian has two bottom teeth. He is still a chubby boy at just under 21 pounds. He is doing new things every day. He waves (when he feels like it), he pulls up on EVERYTHING, he puts all kinds of things in his mouth....food and nonfood alike. He is loves to say "dada" and is beginning to say "mama" more and more. He also says "bababa", and "yayaya" a lot. The only thing he is actually labeling is the dog. He will reach for Gauge and say "dot" or "doot".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCi3MiC6t3C5BU9OcDF_vpMgquWzRqmcR8ieYXUymQNhiOloYebsteJ5t2GU-LyuFgXD85dqUFUAwVzZK6ym0gM9hzNnWkDbzdin6Umgi-5E6QECFzRYZ0SqIZmNqBSgUYwQmz9yAPsXMz/s1600/DSC_0814.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCi3MiC6t3C5BU9OcDF_vpMgquWzRqmcR8ieYXUymQNhiOloYebsteJ5t2GU-LyuFgXD85dqUFUAwVzZK6ym0gM9hzNnWkDbzdin6Umgi-5E6QECFzRYZ0SqIZmNqBSgUYwQmz9yAPsXMz/s1600/DSC_0814.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
He is really starting to explore his world. He loves to feed the dogs and throw his cup or spoon on the floor. He likes finding out what different sounds he can make when pounding on things and has recently begun to take out bowls and pans that he can access. He has also recently discovered the stairs and he LOVES to climb.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
His newest thing is pushing buttons on the radio......<br />

He also likes to let go of things when he is standing and often forgets to put his hands down when he is falling. Most of the time, he is pretty chill about his bumps and bruises, but he scares his mommy.<br />

Here are some (increasingly hard to take) pictures of my adorable, chubby, 9 month baby boy joy. Holy Moly, this kid is on the move! He went from inching around just
before my last post to flying down the hallway in a matter of days. He can also pull himself up to stand and he is beyond proud of himself! He giggles and talks and screeches to himself as he discovers new things. Currently, his favorite things to crawl to are the mirror at the end of the hallway, the bathtub, his bin of books that he can dump out and the windowed back door.</div>

He loves to take Daddy's slippers, and anything else that isn't a toy. He has a bit of a temper too, throwing himself backwards or "jumping" up and down when he is upset. In this case, "someone" isn't a person, but a dog who thought he was a person.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaisrhU-3vlf2I8fi_XEVuCU5oJ2R3bUSRym0vzcOTN2c6rgeSCBQ12yp-g8L3rksoIwU66cSOp_am-ue98Q4eYN1E1UKAgaJvddeexGaJY2oyisTT101pfwAv16MAmNkRSgk2VRlKUtlM/s1600/HP0001+(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaisrhU-3vlf2I8fi_XEVuCU5oJ2R3bUSRym0vzcOTN2c6rgeSCBQ12yp-g8L3rksoIwU66cSOp_am-ue98Q4eYN1E1UKAgaJvddeexGaJY2oyisTT101pfwAv16MAmNkRSgk2VRlKUtlM/s1600/HP0001+(2).jpg" height="264" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I got the news two weeks ago that Wiley had passed away. It wasn't a surprise, but still very sad. I had spoken with Chad a few weeks before that when he called to inform me that Wiley was showing signs of kidney failure and likely only had a few weeks left. He would have been 14 this summer. <br />
<br />

Wiley was a true "Once in a lifetime" dog. The cutest puppy, the most photogenic dog, running buddy, barn companion, chaser of fly swatters, racer of snowmobiles, human like car passenger, super swimmer and most of all lover of the outdoors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Wiley went with Chad when we got divorced. Because he really was my dog first, I got him shortly after Chad and I started dating, it was my decision to let him go. It was a difficult decision to make and I surely missed him, but it was the right decision. Wiley adored Chad and followed him everywhere, hoping to go walking in the woods or for a ride in the truck. Chad gets the winters off and only works a 4 day week the rest of the year and was sometimes able to take him to work. I knew Wiley would be happiest.<br />

<br />
Chad has sent me pictures over the past 6 years. Wiley had another GSP brother who he loved and ran with until his arthritis wouldn't allow it anymore. I was well aware that the time was near for Wiley, but it was still hard to get the news.<br />

Wiley, I hope that you are forever running, swimming and chasing birds as fast as your spotted legs can carry you!<br />

Ian says "dadada" all the time. Once in a while, he will say "mama", but is seems like a bit of a game to him. He is also beginning to say "ba". He prefers to scream and growl, then smile and giggle at himself.<br />

Ian is a happy, silly little boy with the best giggle. His favorite things are his animals, especially his dog Gauge, being outside, and eating.<br />
<br />
We love you Ian! <br />

<br />
Our year of firsts with Ian. His first Christmas, our first holiday without power.<br />
Our goal for this family and Christmas is to not get caught up in the rat race of holiday shopping, huge gift giving and overspending. We want to celebrate Christmas for the birth of Christ and give to others at the same time. <br />
<br />

We didn't make it to the Christmas Eve service at church this year because of the power outage and cold temperatures. We did enjoy Christmas music and have dinner by candlelight. We also opened a traditional "shoe" present from the wooden dutch clogs on the stairs.<br />

Our power came back on Christmas morning after being out for 36 hours. We were so thankful. It was a nice gift and allowed us some time to relax and enjoy each others company while Ian napped.<br />

For anyone who didn't get a card this year, I am really sorry, I didn't have enough printed. Maybe I will be more prepared for the holidays next year. <br />
<br />
Here is what it looked like. We think he is pretty cute.<br />

<br />
Ian is seven months old and is loving the holiday season. Mostly, because that has meant more time with mommy and lots of new things to look at and taste.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbZWS6bfwbmiWwfnTY5ZGceeugxrEitDb5eAfklR714bjE0MpQplf_z3EE2tLz3hJmkpN7d4JWphvYg_q9ypWb9e5zqlQrj1relz1pHgDZLuUWkRdPdQrylxhKy5iR6Nu5WsPEJNXSyrLy/s1600/DSC_0542.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbZWS6bfwbmiWwfnTY5ZGceeugxrEitDb5eAfklR714bjE0MpQplf_z3EE2tLz3hJmkpN7d4JWphvYg_q9ypWb9e5zqlQrj1relz1pHgDZLuUWkRdPdQrylxhKy5iR6Nu5WsPEJNXSyrLy/s320/DSC_0542.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
He is a great eater. He loves spinach, carrots, squash, sweet potato, and any fruit. He still doesn't have any teeth, but sports a pretty sweet old man grin when he is being silly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjspOoy5Jl41xDao3_00UBGGf9Rg-qwXTy1Dj8rR6LePWBhz5imAFiiK-maWCQ3PVjeT6oLVdQsNMdvY32teDQDSFECxLEnchq-VDoIgpa9CvlTzaLWlYfrYx1yElmo-SdozJbioLGfPbRd/s1600/DSC_0651.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjspOoy5Jl41xDao3_00UBGGf9Rg-qwXTy1Dj8rR6LePWBhz5imAFiiK-maWCQ3PVjeT6oLVdQsNMdvY32teDQDSFECxLEnchq-VDoIgpa9CvlTzaLWlYfrYx1yElmo-SdozJbioLGfPbRd/s320/DSC_0651.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Ian sits up on his own with only the occasional crash. He wants to be on the move so badly, but can't quite figure out how to go forward. He rolls quickly and easily and reaches for anything that catches his eye. He makes diaper changing seem like an Olympic sport.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEyr6UsoESOCk4-cHWCsADCf98ijYx2AexMD6yUNeJUNORWuttKljMs46aGo5DbnlDrZN7Is6W4Msij5v4cqZx7GFBA2eVUq2eakwrUcVU4Vikxq0P3aR8sfXZgg4WtjiACeePXdjZLMw3/s1600/DSC_0663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEyr6UsoESOCk4-cHWCsADCf98ijYx2AexMD6yUNeJUNORWuttKljMs46aGo5DbnlDrZN7Is6W4Msij5v4cqZx7GFBA2eVUq2eakwrUcVU4Vikxq0P3aR8sfXZgg4WtjiACeePXdjZLMw3/s320/DSC_0663.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
He has really found his voice and is working on different sounds and volumes. He loves to shriek, giggle and say "dadadada". He still loves Gauge and now tries to grab him any chance he gets.<br />
<br />
He started swimming lessons in November. He is a great sport with the cold and the noise at the pool and even seems to enjoy going under. He also experienced his first snow this weekend. He looked pretty cute bundled up in his snow gear, but he wasn't really sure what to think.<br />
<br />

We are looking forward to Ian's first Christmas and many more firsts to follow with this sweet, chubby boy!<br />

I have been a mom for half of a year. Ian is six months old today. Along with many other firsts, he has his first illness. Luckily he seems to be dealing pretty well with it, acting like himself and his fever is staying down. Though I don't like to see my little man not feeling well, I am savoring this snugly, quiet day.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw4SnvDfEViyIy0XDz2z1QhrzoJnzBzZLNXsjP00G2kupRmoH93zu-7GDQjd9kvYIwwSmyTJk5wOLcLUwy_of_79pfFBHbDYTQMuT8S6jcB8853U0tgSSdGMuljNqQKToewGJc8wbIRWrf/s1600/DSC_0515.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw4SnvDfEViyIy0XDz2z1QhrzoJnzBzZLNXsjP00G2kupRmoH93zu-7GDQjd9kvYIwwSmyTJk5wOLcLUwy_of_79pfFBHbDYTQMuT8S6jcB8853U0tgSSdGMuljNqQKToewGJc8wbIRWrf/s320/DSC_0515.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
At six months, he now enjoys being on his belly, though he uses this as an escape at bedtime, rolling against the side of the crib and crying to be rescued. He usually smiles, talks or giggles when we arrive to help him. He drools constantly and puts everything in his mouth, though he does not yet have any teeth. He can almost sit up without help, but prefers to be on his feet. He LOVES his jumper! He recently started eating food. He is a huge fan of food (in case there was any doubt)! <br />

Ian is the happiest baby. He is quick to flash a smile at almost anyone and he loves to giggle. He and Gauge are best buddies and Gauge is the lucky one who gets most of Ian's best belly laughs.<br />

Ian is five months old this weekend. He has done so many things already and is always such a trooper. This weekend, we travelled to Waterville to watch Greg race in his first cycle cross race. It was a lot of fun and we met some great people. Even a four month old little boy who will likely be Ian's competition when they are older. Both daddies are already talking balance bikes for Christmas (first birthday would probably be more practical).<br />

He giggles at himself frequently and is beginning to giggle socially. He seems to enjoy going to daycare and is imitating some of the sounds that his buddy Ellie makes. His newest is screeching. He thinks it is hysterical. Greg says that Ian must take after me because he has always been quiet and mellow. <br />

Ian wants to put everything in his mouth and is already teething. Its seems that because of this, my previous sleep through the night boy has given up night time sleeping. Between that and a very busy start to the school year, I am exhausted. I am hoping that every tooth doesn't bring the same amount of fussiness.<br />

Ian loves bath time and walks in the stroller. He still doesn't love belly time, though he can roll over both from belly to back and back to belly. He is a little lazy about rolling and would much rather just kick his legs. He is already keeping us on our toes and making us laugh every day. We just adore this sweet boy. </div>

My sweet baby boy is three months old today! It is so hard to believe how quickly time passes. Ian has grown and changed so much in these few short months. He is such a happy boy, smiling and chatting all the time. He is particularly chatty with Greg in the evenings and has just begun to giggle. So Cute!<br />

He is six weeks old this week and if school was in session, I would be headed back to work and he would be headed to daycare.<br />

I am working hard on getting Ian on something that resembles a schedule. He does really well at night, going to bed around 9:30, waking to eat around 2:30 and then sleeping until 5. I am really happy with the night time schedule. Lately, it is the day time schedule that has me stressed. He is much more alert, but is fighting nap time like nobodies business! If I hold him constantly, he will nap. If I put him down, he insists he is starving (even if he ate 20 minutes earlier). Figuring out when he is really hungry vs. just wanting to be comforted is a work in progress.<br />
<br />
Ian is a little traveller already. He spent 2 nights visiting his cousins in Berwick and went to the beach for the day. He attended the pony club dressage rally to watch Milo compete and went swimming for the first time. He slept through the beach and the rally and was not impressed with the cold water. He didn't mind trying on the life jacket:) Hopefully, he enjoys paddling the kayak near shore with his mommy.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ian is growing too fast! He still spends a lot of time sleeping, and is doing great sleeping in his bassinet at night. However, he now makes so much noise while sleeping, grunting, groaning, and humming, that I am thinking of moving him Greg's office space instead of having him sleep next to our bed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
He has much longer periods when he is awake and when he is awake, he is so much more alert. He makes all kinds of faces now.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He almost always has his hands by his face. That stated in utero, so I am not really surprised.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ian loves to look at his animal pictures on the wall above his changing table. I think he mostly looks at the picture of Gauge because of the contrast.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He is almost always hungry. I bet you can't tell by his chubby cheeks and double chin.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He is really beginning to enjoy floor time and really likes his mirror. He isn't a huge fan of being on his stomach, but he tolerates it for a while.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ian is three weeks old and is growing like crazy! It seems like he changes every day. His eyes are quite blue and his hair can't seem to make a decision at this point. Some days it looks brown and straight, other days it looks blond or red and has a little curl on the top. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He loves to eat and is really fighting anything longer than a two hour feeding schedule during the day. Luckily, he is sleeping for four hour stretches at night. He prefers to sleep in the Mamaroo, aka the "spaceship" but is beginning to tolerate naps in his crib or bassinet for longer stretches.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ian was quite cranky and awake most of the day during our little heat wave. The only thing he enjoyed about the 90 degree weather was not having to wear clothes for 3 days.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Overall, he is awake a lot more often. We try to get tummy time and reading in while he is alert. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He is really a good baby. He goes to the barn almost every day and has been to the university to have lunch with Daddy. He even hung out at Pony Club for the day last weekend.</div>

It's hard to believe that Ian is two weeks old already! He is getting so big already and has changed so much. He is becoming more and more alert during the day and is sleeping better at night (most nights).<br />

Gauge can't get enough of Ian! He has to know where he is all the time and runs right over to him if he makes a noise. Moose really couldn't care less about having a baby in the house.<br />

Ian got a ton of great books at his baby shower. I have been reading to him every day. Mostly, he just kind of hangs out while I read to him, but in the last few days, he has started to look at the pictures. He does very well focusing on pictures with high contrast.<br />

Memorial Day was the only day that it didn't rain since being home with Ian. We took advantage of the sun and took our first trip as a family. Ian isn't quite ready for any big hikes, so we drove to Acadia and walked on Sand Beach and then some of the carriage trails around Jordan Pond. It was a bit chilly and fairly crowded, but it was nice to get out. Ian did really well on his first big outing!<br />

Greg is back to work this week and we already miss him. We are attempting to get back onto a regular schedule. I am back to doing evening chores at the barn and have even started working out lightly. Hopefully, I will be able to begin running and riding again soon. I am dying to get back in the saddle!<br />
